Global theme options reference

Theme options affect the complete publication and should normally be managed by a web owner or designated administrator. Test changes in staging and record previous values before a major adjustment.

Design and typography

Typography controls include body, page frame, article category, topic, metadata, news label, summary points, standfirst, information box, secondary headings, Latest News and six principal-feed headline styles.

Colour options cover backgrounds, primary and supporting colours, headings and links, trending accent, tags and comment areas. Check contrast and every language after a change.

Dark mode

Dark mode can default to light, dark or the visitor’s system preference, with optional installation-specific dark CSS. Verify adverts, forms, logos, galleries and embeds in both modes.

Latest News

Latest News has controls for tab and heading style, borders, backgrounds and active colour. Labels and time treatment should match the public language edition.

Articles and reading flow

Global article options include:

• article count in the principal front-page column;
• sharing controls before and/or after articles;
• ticker, mobile ticker and time display;
• continuous reading and the number of subsequent stories;
• category exclusions from continuous reading;
• related stories and the extended post-content area;
• principal-column pagination;
• global comments.

Quotations, older articles and opinion

Blockquotes have typography, background, icon, border and spacing controls. An old-article notice can use an age threshold and localised wording. The opinion disclaimer has its own copy and presentation.

Authors

Options set signature position, whether biographies appear in articles, their position and visual treatment. Article-level author controls can then provide an exception.

Translation and labels

Public strings cover topics, tags, Latest News, pagination, author prefix, ticker, related content, comments, Debate, Guest Essay and News Cycle. Check both words and URL slugs before a language change.

Search and 404

Search provides editable headings, guidance, placeholder, result text, button and empty state. Selected categories and authors can be hidden from its interface. The 404 page has separate guidance copy.

Integrations and privacy

An installation can support consent profiles for analytics, Matomo or Google sources, a Font Awesome kit, Smart Slider access and connected AI models. API keys, container IDs and connection values must never appear in public documentation or screenshots.

Change control

1. Capture or export the affected values.
2. Change one logical group at a time.
3. Clear required caches.
4. Check front page, article, category, author, search and mobile.
5. Record date, owner and reason.
