Premium articles

The premium article layout is for reporting that needs an immersive, magazine-style reading experience: a major feature, investigation, interview or other substantial article. It uses a full-bleed hero and a centered reading column while keeping the article’s topic, headline and byline together in the opening view.

Select the layout

In the article’s Single Post Layout field, select Premium (magazine). Treat this as a presentation decision made after the article structure is sound, not as a substitute for a clear headline, verified media or an appropriate front-page treatment.

The premium layout is responsive and includes its own dark-mode treatment. Always preview desktop and mobile, particularly with long headlines, multiple bylines and portrait-oriented media.

Build the hero

The hero uses the full-width featured media, or approved full-width media when that is supplied. It presents the article topic, headline and byline over the hero. A site-wide premium badge may also appear when the publication has chosen one; it is optional and should not carry essential information by itself.

Use a strong image or approved media treatment with accurate rights, credit and context. See media and presentation and image workflow before making the layout choice.

Choose the opening

Below the hero, the article opens with its publishing context and one of two editorial introductions:

• Key points can present up to four central findings. When they are present, they are the opening treatment.
• A full-width introduction is used when no key points are supplied.

Do not write both as though readers will see both. Make the selected opening self-contained, then begin the article body with a natural continuation rather than repeating it.

Continue a premium story

Assign a consistent primary topic when several premium articles belong to one continuing story. Premium continuation is topic-led, allowing readers to move into other premium reporting on that primary topic while retaining the same focused layout. It is deliberately narrower than ordinary continuous reading.

For the topic model, read article topics, story threads and tags. For ordinary article sequencing and exclusions, use continuous reading.

Publication check

Confirm the hero crop, contrast behind the headline, topic, byline and any badge. Check that the opening uses either key points or the full-width introduction, the reading column remains comfortable on mobile and dark mode, and continuation only makes sense for the current topic. Review the article editor for the surrounding editorial workflow.
