Editorial API for agents and automation

Aeon News is built for newsrooms that work with AI agents and automated workflows. The principle is simple: everything an editor can set in the article editor can be set through the API, with the same validation and the same permissions.

What agents can do

• Publish and update articles with every editorial field: headline style, front-page image, front-page headline, full-width lead, key points, fact box, image caption and credit, article template, sponsored marking and comment display.
• Set genre and writers, in order, with a title for this article, byline presentation and drop cap. Writers can be searched in the register, and guest writers created.
• Set primary topic and category, which decide the front-page label and news-thread membership.
• Write SEO texts for Rank Math: title, description, focus keyword, social media texts and robots settings.
• Schedule and cancel republishing of archive articles.
• Adjust galleries made with Smart Slider: thumbnails, navigation, autoplay, visibility per device and the slides themselves.

The same rules as in the editor

Agents use an application password for an ordinary editorial user. They can do what that user may do, and nothing more. Values are checked as in the editor: a primary topic must be one of the article’s topics, a genre must exist, and unknown values are rejected instead of guessed.

What is never exposed

Internal notes, user lists, account names and addresses of internal accounts are not available to anonymous visitors. Writer pages and the search filter use the public writer register, never user accounts.

Safe copies

On local and test copies of a site, actions that reach the outside world, such as social sharing, push and new reels, are never sent.
