Continuous reading and the next article

Continuous reading loads a relevant next article when readers reach the end of the current one. The transition avoids a traditional reload while URL and analytics can follow the story actually in focus.

Selecting the next article

The next article normally comes from the same primary category, keeping a Sport reader in Sport rather than sending them to an unrelated desk. Global post settings control how many subsequent articles may load. Premium articles use their own topic-led continuation when another premium article shares the primary topic; see premium articles.

A clear transition

The following story is visually introduced before taking over the reading state. Its URL updates at the transition point. Verify that headings, adverts and recurring modules do not create an abrupt or repetitive boundary.

Analytics

Each transition can register as a separate view in a supported analytics system. Test the setup to prevent duplicate counts and respect consent rules.

Exclusions

Exclude load more removes an individual article, while global settings can exclude complete categories. This is useful for specialist landing pages, sensitive material or formats that require an unmistakable ending.
