Getting started

Set up a reliable editorial rhythm before making the first daily edition in Aeon News.

Before publishing, agree how your newsroom will name sections, assign story ownership and hand off the front page. Aeon News works best when these decisions are simple enough to follow on a busy news day.

Prepare the newsroom

Confirm that each editor has the appropriate WordPress role and can access the areas needed for their shift. Establish a small set of sections and tags rather than recreating every desk label in metadata. Decide who may publish, who may change front-page placement and who handles corrections after publication.

Create a short preflight list for each shift: check incoming material, verify links and media rights, review scheduled posts, and agree the lead story and updates cadence. Keep the list beside the editorial planning meeting, not hidden in a technical document.

Publish a first story

Draft a post with a clear headline, a concise standfirst and the article body. Add a suitable featured image, section and any required attribution. Preview it at common reading widths before publishing. After publication, verify the article page, its expected archive or section listing, and its intended front-page position.

Build confidence gradually

Run the first week with a named editor responsible for the front page. Make changes in small batches and record the reason for important placement decisions. That creates a useful editorial record and makes training easier for the next shift.
