Push notifications
Plan, publish and review native news alerts without exhausting reader attention.

Push notifications let a newsroom reach readers immediately and open the relevant story in the app. That reach makes notification policy an editorial responsibility, not merely a technical setting.
Define the policy
Agree which desks may send alerts, what qualifies as urgent and who reviews wording. Separate genuine breaking news from promotion and routine publication. A notification should identify the event clearly without overstating what is known.
Before sending
- Open the destination article and confirm that it is public.
- Check the mobile headline, featured image and first paragraph.
- Write concise notification copy that remains accurate on its own.
- Verify the destination before approving the alert.
When a developing story is corrected, consider whether readers need a follow-up alert. Avoid sending a series of near-identical notifications when one updated article gives a clearer experience.
Delivery and consent
Readers control notification permission on their devices. Delivery can also vary by operating system and network conditions. Test on supported iOS and Android versions and never describe delivery as guaranteed to every device.
