A verified reference to the Aeon News fields that extend the WordPress article editor.

This reference describes custom article and profile fields verified in the active Aeon News installation. Exact tab labels and order may vary because Advanced Custom Fields groups can be tailored to a customer installation.
Article extensions

| Full-width introduction | Text area | A prominent opening above the lead image for major features, interviews and investigations. |
| Alternative headline | Text | A shorter or differently arranged front-page/list headline that preserves the canonical headline’s meaning. |
| Information box | Rich text | Facts, methodology, timeline, links or supplementary context outside the main narrative. |
| Summary point 1–4 | Text | Up to four independent points presenting the central findings or developments. |
| Debate subject | Text | A precise subject label where the general Debate section is too broad. |
Featured image settings

| Copyright | Text | Photographer, agency or rights holder under newsroom policy. |
| Front-page image adjustment | Choice | Full width, right aligned, no featured image, columnist image, or columnist plus featured image. |
| Hide featured image | Toggle | Retains the image for listings and sharing but removes it from the top of the article. |
| Featured full-width content | Rich media | Replaces the lead position with a video, gallery or another approved embed. |

Authors, presentation and comments

Feed headline and reading flow

Author profile
Profiles can include a standard photo, columnist portrait, biography, role, location, beat summary, website and newsletter link. Some installations may expose a public contact field. Never publish personal contact details without an explicit decision.
Category controls
Categories can carry an opinion disclaimer. A separate setting can make a category available to the mobile app’s push or category flow; coordinate such changes with the app owner.
Internal notes
Custom notes are internal and are not a source for public copy. Do not store passwords, source-protected material, sensitive personal data or information that does not belong in the WordPress database.
Retired fields
Older installations may retain unused field definitions. Do not adopt one merely because it exists in the database. Verify that it appears in active admin, is consumed by the current theme and has an agreed purpose.
