Platform housekeeping

Missed schedules, e-mail protection and trash retention, built into the platform instead of separate plugins.

Last updated 14 October 2026

Some everyday functions used to require separate plugins. Aeon News now has them built in, with the same behaviour on every site. Settings are under Aeon News Options › Platform.

The Platform section with Publish missed scheduled posts, Protect e-mail addresses and a status table.
Both functions are on by default. The status table shows the last run and any articles that need attention.

Missed scheduled posts

WordPress sometimes fails to publish a scheduled article on time, for example when the site has no visitors at that moment. The platform checks regularly and publishes scheduled articles that are at most 24 hours late.

Older missed articles are never published automatically, since an article planned for yesterday morning may no longer be right. They are listed under Scheduled posts more than 24 hours late, with links, for an editor to publish, reschedule or remove.

E-mail protection

E-mail addresses in articles, fact boxes, references, widgets, comments and menus are encoded so that address-harvesting robots cannot read them. Readers see and click them as usual. Nothing in the stored text changes.

Trash retention

Deleted articles stay in the trash for 90 days by default before they are removed for good. Change the period under Settings › General.

Old plugins step aside

If one of the plugins these functions replace is still active, the platform’s version waits and the status table says so. The switch can therefore be made at any time: deactivate the old plugin and the platform takes over.
